Kinda short |
|
I would have given this game higher rating if the game had been longer. I felt like it was a little too short. This was the first Final Fantasy game I've ever played, and I picked this one up because I heard Final Fantasy games are hard and this one is supposed to be easier... but I thought it was a little too easy. All of the bosses (except the last) are very easy to beat, there is almost no strategy involved, you just have to keep whacking at the guy. This game is fun... but for single player, it's hard keeping track of your party. Sometimes a person gets left behind on a ledge and then they keep jumping off the ledge because they're trying to get over to you... but then they die from falling off. Many times your party members will die because while you're killing some bad guy, they are just standing around letting other bad guys attack them. I wish that as they rose in levels, they would become better at defense. Now, if your buy this game intending to play multi-player then this game will be much more fun because then you won't need to "babysit" your party members. There are of course good things to this game. The graphics are beautiful, and the storyline is interesting (though, some parts are overly dramatic). You get to customize your characters with outfits that make them stronger. You also get to use many different kinds of magic. If you beat the game, you can save and replay it again with the same items and level you were at when you beat the game (but the monsters are stronger). Overall, this game is fun, but if you want to play a great RPG, I recommend The Legend of Zelda and the Phantom Hourglass. |

FFX Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate |
|
The game started out okay and then as more characters were introduced, things got hard to manage. I had difficulty keeping track of where characters were on the screen and what abilities they were using (if you are not careful, characters could have algorithms that use all of your items). I also never figured out how to to pile rings to do multiple damage -- perhaps that is something that can only be done in multiplayer mode ???. Anyhow, I got bored with the game about 2/3 of the way through because the platforming and the lever hunting wore on my nerves too much. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a story for me to bear with it until the end. Personally, I'm a fan of turn-based game play. This game, though, is real-time, so it just may have not been the right game for me :(. I think if you like platforming and hack-n-slash mixed with chibi-cuteness, then you will enjoy this game more than I did. It is really, really, cute :). |

just great |
I don't like turn-based games. They are really slow and boring.
This is why I love FFCC ring of fates. It is a terrific fun rpg, It is kind of short (you don't have to spend your life playing this game), not difficult (you don't have to keep fighting 2 hours with the same enemies in order to reach level 100 for defeting a monster) and ... they story is a fantastic story.
If you don't like slow RPGs but you like epic stories, this is your game. |

Final Fantasy? |
|
As far as a Final Fantasy game goes, I am not sure how much this qualifies. The reason i say this is that, using an online guide maybe once, i finished the game in just under 12 hours. The game was very short. The characters we pretty good, but it would have been nicer if your other members did more while you controlled one. I also agree that the point of view was a little hard to use. Dont get me wrong, it was a good game, the biggest thing was it was too short, and in a way, almost too easy for a Final Fantasy game. |

Needed a pause, and a quick save |
This game is really fun to play, and the characters and graphics are super cute. If you prefer action/adventure RPG's (like the ____ of Mana and Summon Night series, and Zelda) as opposed to turn-based and strategy types, you will probably enjoy Ring of Fates. Each character has a variety of different moves to choose from in battles, so you don't have to feel like you are just mashing the attack button until all the monsters go away (although, you probably can get by doing that, if you really want to). The story and general formula (dungeon, boss fight, back to town for supplies and info, repeat) are nothing new, but considering it only takes 20-30 hours to complete, you probably won't get bored of it before you finish.
The number one problem for me was that this game isn't really very portable. There is no pause. Even when you switch to the menu screens, monsters will still appear and attack you on the other screen. There is also no quick save function. You can just close the DS (assuming your battery isn't running out) and it goes into suspend mode, but when you open it back up, you'll be immediately immersed in monster fighting action. In short, it's not very good for playing on the bus, on lunch breaks or for an hour or less in between other activities.
I had also hoped to use the stylus more (like in Zelda: Phantom Hourglass) but most game play is done with the buttons and the the d-pad, and switching over to the stylus for the few tasks you need it for is kind of awkward.
This game could have been better, but I still had a lot of fun playing it and would recommend it if you liked the above mentioned games. |
