Prince of Persia is set in a land rooted in ancient Persian mythology, with the Prince finding himself caught in an epic battle between the primal forces of light and darkness—the god of Light, Ormazd versus his brother Ahriman, the destructive god of Darkness. The Prince arrives just in time to witness the destruction of the legendary Tree of Life, an act which threatens to plunge the entire world into eternal darkness. Manifested in the form of 'the Corruption,' a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and the skies, the Prince must partner with his new deadly companion Elika to heal the world from the evil Corruption. The Next-Gen of PoP |
A new Prince for a new story. View larger. | The Hunter is not to be trifled with. View larger. | Elika is a beautiful, but deadly ally. View larger. | A Frightening New Enemy and a Powerful Ally As Ahriman, the god of Darkness is released so are his minions of monstrous slaves. The most dangerous and powerful set against the Prince is known as "the Hunter." Once a human prince himself, the Hunter was raised in opulent decadence and detached from the day-to-day world. His only passion was for the drama and brutality of the hunt, but soon passion grew to obsession. After killing every variety of beast known, he grew bored and too bold. Recognizing an opportunity Ahriman appeared to him and offered a bargain, a hunt against the most dangerous beasts the world has to offer in return for his soul. Foolishly he accepted and was transformed from man into demonic beast and was hunted by men from all over the world. His all-consuming rage made easy work of the hunters set against him, but also bound him to Ahriman for eternity.
But wherever there is evil, there is also a counter balance to it. Following the defeat and imprisonment of Ahriman, his brother Ormazd, the god of Light, left the world in the care of his servants, the Ahuras, guardians of the tree of life. The Prince’s new ally, Elika, is one of those guardians. Beautiful and mysterious she is a powerful AI companion who accompanies players throughout the game. Filled with an unknown power, she will be helpful in all aspects of gameplay, including acrobatics, combat and puzzle-solving as players quest to rid the land from Ahriman's corruption.

One of the most frustratingly simple games of all time... |
I was a huge fan of both the original Prince of Persia games on the SNES and fans of the incredible Prince Of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy by Ubisoft. The stories were intense, involving and evolved from a care-free fairy tale into a world of madness for the protagonist of the series. It was a miraculous journey through the trilogy from the evolving combat system to the graphics of the game.
On the other hand, this game is the first game I have ever stormed back to the retailer (I purchased a used copy) and had to switch it out for something else, thankfully they were generous.
I owned the game for a total of 48 hours and continually tried to play it but the number one problem with this game is this; It is INCREDIBLY EASY, you CANNOT die, my brother and I had the most fun jumping off cliffs repeatedly and watching the character never die. Spikes, epic falls, swords, blades, scissors, dark goo, nothing can kill you. You are INVINCIBLE.
I am by no means a 'professional gamer', I don't play games online and they are more like movies for me than anything else, more an experience but I do like a challenge. This game provided as much challenge as a game of pin the tail on the blue whale.
We got pretty far in the story and were bored out of our minds, other reviewers summed it up nicely by saying you can beat the whole game with one hand on the controller, you only need one button and nothing else.
The story is, in my opinion -- Really, really, REALLY lame, I didn't get into it at all, the dialog was pulled from that movie you saw the rental store that had a copy that looked eerily similar to Indiana Jones. Such memorable quotes like "This sword sure is sharp". Over and over and over again.
I'd recommend you rent the game first, even at the bargain price you can get it for now. It is just way too easy. |

acceptable |
the game wasn't something special, not that exciting gameplay nor are the graphics captivating.
I had fun playing it, but quite frankly i'm not very excited about its successor.

Big letdown |
This game was a big letdown for me. I knew going into it that most people criticized it for being extremely easy, but fun. And it is. If you fall off a ledge, Elika catches you; if you get killed in battle, Elika rescues you; if you get lost, Elika shows you exactly where to go. Sure, watching yourself get saved and starting at the last checkpoint is about the same as dying in a practical sense, but it feels a little bit like the game is holding your hand. Plus, there is no sense of development as the game goes on. The prince is the exact same character, no new weapons, no new powers, no new attacks.
That being said, the game mechanic is kinda fun. I was reminded of Infamous in how easy it was to jump from ledge to ledge, smoothly moving from jump, to wall run, to being flung by Elika. Strangely enough, these extended sliding, wall running, jumping sequences to collect light seeds reminded me of SSX 3, going smoothly from trick to rail to air in order to collect those silver snowflakes for money.
The bottom line is that there is simply nothing that this game excels at. The story is awful; there's no compelling plot for the prince, no reason why he is on this quest, he only seems to care about his donkey, which you never see, and the character development is poor at best. I found myself not caring for the characters. The voice acting is great. Nolan North (of Nathan Drake fame) does a great job. BUT the story is better in games like Uncharted, God of War. The climbing mechanics are better in Infamous. that game was simply more fun. I looked forward to collecting blast shards; collecting light seeds was more of a chore. The battle mechanics are better in God of War, where your weapons upgrade and you're not constantly blocking, but rather completely destroying your enemies. The prince feels a bit like a wimp.
Don't want to spoil it, but the ending is AWFUL! It left me wondering why I even played the game... You'll see what I mean.
Rent it. You can beat it in a couple of sittings. |

Prince of Glitches |
If you are a casual gamer, go for this game, it's easy and fun.
BUT if you are a hardcore gamer (like me) just AVOID PRINCE OF PERSIA. Right now I'm trapped and tied up with the infamous "999 light seed glitch, wich is preventing me from obtaining the Prince of Persia platinum trophy, more details here:
[..]
I just can't obtain the platinum trophy without restarting the game from the very begining. I am a VERY, VERY angry videogame nerd right now.
This is not the first time UBISOFT does this kind of things.
