This camera has features including a 10.0 Megapixel, 1/2.3-inch CCD, DIGIC III Image Processor, 3x optical zoom lens with a shift-type optical Image Stabilizer (IS) system and 2.5-inch LCD monitor with wide viewing angle. It uses new compact, high capacity Battery Pack NB-6L to shoot up to approx. 300 images (based on the CIPA standard when the LCD monitor is on), and SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards, MultiMediaCards, MMCplus cards and HC MMCplus cards for the recording media. Images are utilized with a direct print compatible printer, computer and TV via Hi-Speed USB. |

A great P&S camera that still holds it own today |
I was amazed by the quality of this camera after receiving it as a gift. Even with today's more advanced cameras, it still holds it own. The camera comes with a slew of features including image stabilization, face detection, different scene modes, manual controls for some features, and a great screen. The feel of the camera is excellent and the battery life is also very good. During my 10 months of ownership I have managed to use the camera during mountain biking, hiking, and just walking down city streets. The camera works well in many circumstances and is very easy to use.
The pros include:

The negatives include:
poor low light performance (common in P&S cameras)
slow focusing in low light (also common in other cameras)
stabilization sometimes works well and sometimes not
The many features are easily used and one can even shoot limited videos with the camera. The video features are for standard sized videos. Perhaps the one problem with the camera is its performance in low light. Images often appear with large amounts of grain, even at iso set at 80. This might be more of a problem with it being a P&S camera with a small sensor. The 3x optical zoom works fairly well but one should avoid using the digital zoom which leaves a great deal to be desired.
The camera itself is easy to carry and handle. The camera has a fast start up and fairly quick shooting mechanism in daylight. Some of the best shots have come from up close macro shots using the 3x zoom. Landscapes are nice done with proper lighting or lack of. During full daylight some landscape shots would come out white washed or with too much light.
Overall a great camera to use all around. The camera was a great introduction to photography, even it wasn't a DSLR camera. |

This is an amazing camera. My first one got stolen, but since I liked it so much I bought the same one again instead of a newer model. I can't find any faults with it. |

It's a very good camera, good quality pictures. and the sdhc cards are inexpensive versus others like sony or olympus.
It's my second canon digital camera and I'm glad. |

Love this thing. I've always used a Canon. I must say that I'm a big guy and I didn't think this particular model would be so small but I still love it. Takes quick pics and they always come out perfect. Great camera for great price. |

Terrible customer service |
This is an excellent camera. The Canon waterproof housing I bought was less than that--the second time I used it, it leaked and ruined the camera.
But my comment here is on Canon's customer service. It took Canon two weeks to send me a replacement camera, and that shipment was lost by FedEx. However, when I contacted Canon to ask them to ship me another camera, they refused. They said that the problem was now between me and FedEx. I advised that I didn't have a relationship to FedEx, but that they did. My relationship was to Canon, and I asked that Canon give me another camera while it was waiting to be paid by FedEx for the lost camera. Three CSRs separately refused, and said that they can't fix a problem like this quickly.
I told them that if I told Jas-store that I'd not gotten a product from Jas-store, it would ship a replacement immediately. They said they don't do things that way.
So, be forewarned that if you have problems with this camera, you may encounter slow response and poor customer service.
Next time, I won't buy Canon. |
