Product Description |
You are a young SOLDIER 2nd Class who aspires to become a 1st, those who are strong enough and who are respected and idolized by the citizens. SOLDIER is a group of skilled combat operatives within the Shinra Company, who is rapidly increasing its influence through its monopoly on mako energy and military might. A large number of SOLDIER members have gone missing during an operation in Wutai. Whats all the hype about? |
I heard this was the must-have game on the PSP.
Sadly, found this to be remarkably boring. The characters were too over the top, missions kept coming on and on and were so repetitive, I'd given them up after a while; the gameplay was too easy and the biggest complain I have is a lack of save points before crucial levels like fighting the bosses. This ultimately led to many reviewing of cutscenes if you failed to beat the bosses, and boy are these cutscenes long!! Actually, almost everything you do involves more and more cutscenes, which made the overall effect very tedious during gameplay. Who wants to watch the same cutscene so often!?
Graphics and soundtrack was fantastic nevertheless, but doesnt help to lift this game to something more exciting than watching paint dry. I'd much rather spend my time replaying God of War. |

A Step Up |
Having had any love for Final Fantasy 7 dashed upon the rocky shores of cosplaying idiots and horrific fan-fiction, I was understandably nervous when I opened this game. Visions of 300 lb Tifa wanna-be's and thousands of unwashed Sephiroth imitators rampaging through the streets flooded my mind as the game loaded. Fearing the worst, I began to play.
My hopes and fears are both realized in the first hour of play. Engaging and intuitive gameplay kept me joyously enraptured wih the storyline, but the game almost prophesizes the return of imbecilles in bad costumes. The storyline is easy to follow, and engaging, and unfortunately lends many openings to the same homo-erotic fan-fic garbage that polluted Final Fantasy 7.
As a game: Top notch. As a foundation for more nightmarish fan hobbies: a death sentence. |

Final Fantasy VII is the most recognized and popular game in the series of Final Fantasy's so this actually takes you to the past before the original Final Fantasy. The graphics are one of the top 3 that i've seen on a PSP including both the cutscenes and gameplay, the CGI cutscenes may be kinda choppy maybe the resolution got turned down to maybe not take that much space on the UMD, don't worry the are very good and entertaining. You'll see some surprinsing cutscenes using the gameplay engine that are just as good, now the battle system can get a little sistematic and might end up doing the same thing over and over buttim smashing but that can get overpassed if you just mix it up. A new implementation is DMW that is kind of like a slot machine that enables you to make some special moves depending on the combination althought it is sort of a new addition it can sometimes ruin your rhythm within the game as when there's a combination in the DMW it appears on the screen and pauses the fight then continuing to the ingame cutscene performing the move if it actually made the combination, dealing damage and continuing the fight. The story is not the best but I think its decent it has another vibe to it, than the original Final Fantasy VII but then again you were facing a Meteor falling to your planet and a demented momma's boy. Some familiar characters appear in the game which is always good. If you've played the original and you want to dwelve more into the story then it's a good buy to have especially on the go and even if you've never played the original then it's still a great game that even if you didn't know a lot of the event from the original story it's still an interesting game to a newcomer to the series. |

Good and bad |

I took my time with this game and beat it in 35 hours. It was enough fun to play through. Get ready to repeatedly mash the same button over and over. Also, the camera angles are terrible. Side "missions" are necessary to level up but can get pretty boring just running around fields and caves looking for fights. Some side quests are so easy they are pointless and others are more difficult. Overall I enjoyed it, but look forward to improvements on the next one. |
