psp at its best
this game is awsome if you love the classic final fantasy characters like cloud, sephiroth, or zach also the fighting style is great not just stand in one place and hit

Good and bad
I took my time with this game and beat it in 35 hours. It was enough fun to play through. Get ready to repeatedly mash the same button over and over. Also, the camera angles are terrible. Side "missions" are necessary to level up but can get pretty boring just running around fields and caves looking for fights. Some side quests are so easy they are pointless and others are more difficult. Overall I enjoyed it, but look forward to improvements on the next one.

Worthy addition to the Final Fantasy franchise
If you're looking for a great RPG for the PSP, this is the one.
The gameplay is fun and inuitive. The combat system is seamless with normal gameplay.
The cutscenes are gorgeous, and the storyline is interesting.
For fans of Final Fantasy VII, this game will bring back fond memories... It elucidates some mysteries while creating other interesting ones.

You Won't Be Dissapointed
I was reading some of the other reviews on this game and was surprised by some of the comments. Someone called it a hack and slash, linear game with poor camera angles...or something to that effect. I can't be more contradictory to those statements than if I just said "wrong".
First, the game is only linear in storyline...but how many games aren't? This game has a huge optional quest menu that allows you to choose which quests you will open and what rewards you will gain along with little bonus/unnecessary missions that you find throughout the game. At many times during the game you are also even allowed to free rome many areas and talk to people and do side jobs and such.
Next, to call this game a hack and slash game is even more inaccurate. This is easily a live action RPG where you select which move you want to do from a menu system the entire game. Anyone who refers to this game as a hack and slash either doesn't understand the term "hack and slash", doesn't understand how the actions menu of this game works, or hasn't even actually played the game. If you're button mashing throughout this game then you aren't playing the game correctly. I'm interested in knowing how they were even able to make past any of the bosses seeing as how you have 2 separate defensive maneuvers tied to two separate buttons that require somewhat accurate timing on execution to evade attacks. Button masher? Not even close.
And lastly, the camera angles can be a little difficult at times, but overall they are pretty decent and easily adjusted. Not to mentioned this is an RPG so camera angles aren't overly critical to the gameplay.
Now that the corrections are done, the game has beautiful graphics for a PSP game. The storyline is engaging but a little hokey at times almost as if the writers were trying to stretch the game time a little. The music and controls rock. Much of the FFVII music is used but occasionally you'll get something new when fighting certain bosses. They also do a great job tying in FFVII to this game's timeline and show how characters like Cloud and Sephiroth started out. All in all, this lacks almost nothing and feels like the creators crammed as much on that little UMD as they possibly could. But not all games appeal to all people. This game is a live action RPG for the PSP and a great addition to the PSP lineup. Don't expect PS3 or XBOX360 quality from a PSP game.

Final Fantasy <3
I'm not a diehard Final Fantasy fan like a few of my friends I know but I liked Final Fantasy after watching the Advent Children movie. The graphixs are amazing and they look so REAL !! Right down to the Motorola Cell Phones they use in the movie and in this game. My Sister bought me the Final Fantasy game for DS but graphixs weren't all that great. But on PSP it's Awesome !! The price is pretty reasonable too and well worth the purchasing. I'd recommend it to not just Final Fantasy fans but to any MM0RPG/RPG enthusiasts.
