Print Directly From Cameras and Memory Cards
Printing photos and enlargements at home is convenient and cost-effective. The HP Photosmart B8550 Inkjet Photo Printer offers several printing options. With a 2.4-inch color LCD display, you can review, select, and enhance photos without the use of your computer. It features 15 convenient buttons that let you zoom-in to check out details before you print and perform quick editing tasks. With special HP technology, red eye reduction is as easy as pushing a single button, and the printer's four LED indicators let you know if anything needs your attention before you start printing.

Dedicated slots let you print directly from a variety of common memory cards, including Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Secure Digital/MultiMediaCards, and xD-Picture Cards. You can also print right from any PictBridge enabled camera or computer using one of the printer's high-speed USB connections. This printer also supports wireless operation with the use of HP Blue tooth adapters (not included).

Print Almost Anything, Fast
The 125-sheet main tray holds paper from 4 x 6-inches to 13 x 19-inches, including envelopes, standard letter paper, and legal-sized paper. A specialized tray makes it easy to load paper in three common photo sizes--3.5 x 5-inches, 4 x 6-inches, and 5 x 7-inches. Additionally, borderless printing is supported for prints up to 13 x 44-inches.

Document printing is fast, at up to 32 pages per minute for black-and-white draft-quality letters and 31 pages per minute for color draft-quality letters. Unlike with some multi-use printers, photo printing is quick, too. A 13 x 19-inch color photo may be finished printing in as little as 95 seconds.

Innovative Technology for Quality and Reliability
Four HP 564 dye-ink cartridges in cyan, magenta, yellow, and photo black provide vivid color images and high-quality black-and-white photos. For laser-quality black text on paper, a fifth cartridge contains black pigment ink. Combined with Advanced Photo Paper, these Vivera inks offer instant-dry, smudge-resistant photos. Plus, with the five-ink system, you only have to replace the cartridges you need, saving you money.

There's plenty of innovative technology behind HP's photo printers. Unique Auto Sense technology uses optical sensors to optimize settings based on what type of paper you are using. And when printing begins, dual-drop volume technology means the specialized print head delivers extremely small drops, allowing detailed images to contain smooth transitions.

When you select the "best" print quality option for color or black and white, this Photosmart printer prints up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. For photographs, it can render images with up to 9600 x 2400-optimized dpi color (when printing from a computer on selected HP photo papers and with 1200-input dpi).

This HP Photosmart printer is backed by a one-year limited hardware warranty and one-year of technical phone support.

Customer Reviews for  'HP Photosmart B8550 Inkjet Photo Printer'

HP Photosmart 8550
The purchase was great and got item on time. That was not the problem. The problem was trying to get it to work. I spent about an hour with HP with their so called support team from India or somewhere as could not understand them. They were unable to get the printer to work properly. I finally got it to work myself after trying for about a day. HP was going to send me a REFURBISHED printer for my NEW PRINTER (SUCH A DEAL). I will have to say they did give me a 2 year warranty on the printer though (WOW).Well needless to say I sold this printer and got a Epson. Works great. I will never buy another HP product.

This printer will eat your wallet
I have owned this printer for about 1 yr and I cannot recommend it in any way.

Flaws:
- it goes through ink like crazy. I spend more on ink than I do on gas. Seriously- stay away from this printer. I used 3 full sets of high capacity black cartridges one evening to print out about 12 11x17" high quality prints. Mind you they had a lot of black in them but this is ridiculous.
- cleans itself way to often and takes way too long
- bad printer driver software slows down my mac when going through printer dialogues
- paper trays are complicated and hard to pull out and sometime fall off completely or get stuck in the up position
- cartridge tray went bad and had to be replaced
- doesn't like aftermarket cartridges and often refuses to use them or says they are empty when they aren't. So you are stuck with the money-grubbing HP cartridges
- Not eco-friendly- the HP cartridges this thing uses have a large orange plastic part you have to snap off and throw away with each cartridge. Guess what, no recycling symbol so you pretty much have to throw this away along with all of the other packaging crap HP includes with the cartridges- HP is not eco-friendly or they wouldn't do this.

Every time I have to replace a cartridge, I feel like I am being fleeced.

Nothing good to say about HP.

This printer sucks.

HP Photosmart B8550 Inkjet printer
This is a good printer but it drinks ink as if it's in a fish pond. Make sure you place the print on normal or every print will print as BEST and your ink will flow. Recommend if you do large prints.

IF YOU INSTALL THE INK IN IT, YOU'RE KEEPING IT WHETHER IT WORKS OR NOT!!
This printer did not work from the start. The 8 1/2 x 11 paper feed jams every time. After contacting HP directly they said it was defective and they would replace it with a refurbished one!! I contacted Adorama Camera (within 3 weeks from date of purchase) and they stated if toner or ink had been installed in the printer, they would not exchange or refund the printer!!! WHAT??? How are you supposed to know if it works or not, if you don't put in the ink cartridges??? AMAZON also dropped the ball on this. Don't count on their A-Z guarantee! AMAZON stated if Seller has their return policy stated, then there was nothing they could do. RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THIS PRINTER!! IT'S NOT WORTH TAKING THE CHANCE OF GETTING A DEFECTIVE MACHINE AND HAVING NO RECOURSE OTHER THAN TO TAKE SOMEONE ELSE'S RETURNED JUNK DUBBED "REFURBISHED"!!! WON'T BUY ANOTHER THING FROM AMAZON. IF THEY ARE GOING TO ALLOW SELLERS TO SELL UNDER THEIR UMBRELLA, THEY SHOULD BE WILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS ON THEIR BEHALF. ESPECIALLY ON SUCH A RETARDED RETURN POLICY!!!!

this printer is just average for price range, disappointing upgrade
This is the second dedicated photo printer I have purchased from HP. I bought it to replace a Photosmart 8250, which I just plain wore out. I print a lot of pictures for my scrapbooking hobby, and needed a printer that could print 8x11 sheets. This was one of the only ones I found with that capability. I have not used any format larger than the 8x11, so my comments are on printing on 8x11 and 4x6 photo paper. I usually print smaller pictures, 4x6, 3x5 and 3x4. My rating is a 2 star, because this printer's photo quality is just average, and HP took away a lot of options previously offered on the Photosmart series as far as Printing Properties are concerned.

This printer is easy to set up, and prints pretty good photos, especially in the 3x5 and 4x6 formats. I have the best luck printing from the 4x6 photo tray, which produces the closest to "lab like" photos of any setting on this printer (up to 8x11). The photo quality is best when printing from the photo tray, which is disappointing to me because I print most of my pictures in 3x4 size with 6 on an 8x11 photo paper to save me time and energy. Also printing from the photo tray is disappointing, because you have to watch that the paper actually feeds from the 4x6 tray, otherwise you get an error message which is fixed simply by pushing in the paper. It's annoying to babysit this printer, not to mention wastes time. I use the Advanced Photo Paper, glossy, as this gives the best results (I have tried the 3 "best" papers). With my old printer (HP 8250) I used the Premium Plus Photo Paper from HP but that paper doesn't produce the best quality on the new B8550. I have played around with the settings extensively, and I am very disappointed with HP. Manually setting the printing properties is a disappointing experience, especially when compared to the old HP 8250. The B8550 has such limited options, it's not much of a photo printer.

The software that comes with this printer is useless to anyone who has ever used Image Zone, and I still print from the Image Zone program. The software is also useless if you have Windows 7, as it is only compatible with Windows Vista and below. I was disappointed in this as well, since I bought this printer only 6 months ago.

The printer eats ink, especially at first. I use the HP ink (and HP paper) which makes it quite expensive. It has slowed down on the ink ingestion somewhat, but I am noticing poorer quality so I guess it's a trade off.

For the price I paid, I am disappointed in this printer. I see the price has now dropped about $75 from when I bought it, which I guess would make it an okay buy. I would wait until this printer comes down to about $100 before recommending it, and then only to those who don't do much photo printing, or only need average quality photos.

I, like the other reviews I have read, am re-considering HP products. The reasons that I bought this printer over an Epson/Canon was that I have had such good experiences with HP products in this price range, I LOVE the Image Zone software that came with my old HP printer and wanted to continue using it, and that reviews of the Epson/Canons said those printers hogged ink. Now that HP has downgraded the quality and options for their printers in this price range, and I know first hand that their printers hog ink too, I am not so confident in their products.
