Jas-store.com Product Description |
|
The DEWALT D55153 Hot Dog Compressor has all the power of a large compressor, but constructed as a smaller, lighter unit. It delivers 3.8 cubic feet per minute at 100 psi and is durably built with oil-lubricated cast-iron cylinder. Included with the Hot Dog Compressor is the regulator and an initial fill of DEWALT synthetic air compressor oil. |

Disappointed |
I bought this unit about 8 months ago. At the time, I had heard good things about this compressor. However, after working with it a bit, I am disappointed with this unit.
I agree with the design criticisms in the "Good compressor, poor design" review by "Crusty."
Also, consistent with the "Hard to start" review by "Wilton W. Wyman", I have had trouble starting this compressor in cold weather. I was working with a guy that had a Porter Cable pancake compressor and we were both working with and storing our compressors in the same cold, unheated location. His started up fine and mine had troubles (maybe because his was oil-free and this one uses oil, but still . . . ) The weather was cold but not too extreme so it was definitely working weather; I had not expected so many problems in the cold.
When I was shopping I looked at this one and the Makita MAC2400 13 Amp 2-1/2 Horsepower 4.2-Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor. I got this one to save $45 (big mistake). The Makita's probably a lot quieter than this unit, among other things.
When this one quits, I'll get the Makita. |

Good compressor, poor design |
This compressor does the basics well - compress air. The issues that I have are in the design of the unit.
1. The bleed valve location is on the back of the unit next to the compressor motor, which makes it hard to access and there's burn potential for hands.
2. The pressure gauge is behind the carry handle so vision is obstructed.
3. The output pressure control valve is tight behind the carry handle.
4. The hose connection faces the compressor motor rather than the front.
It does the basics without complaint. |

Hard to start |
This compressor kicks out the overload on cold start ups. With an ambient temperature of 70 degrees and above I don't expect difficulties with start up, but I have to re-set the overload 5 to 6 times with the tanks empty. I had this identical compressor before (it was stolen) and I never had a problem with start-up unless it was below freezing.
I am quite disapointed with this item. |

DeWalt - What more need I say? |
|
This is a great little compressor for the money! I didn't need a real high volume unit, as I only plan to fill tires & blow dust out of my electronic devices - I have 19 pooches and there's a lot of dust "in these-here parts"! The compressor has performed flawlessly. I'm pleased! |

not so hot hot dog |
|
I returned the DeWalt compresssor because I believe it had been used, probably briefly, returned and reshipped to me. It arrived with considerable oil in the bottom of the carton. When attempting to initiate set up procedure, the owners manual was unclear and necessitated a call to a DeWalt service center. There was a considerable amount of oil in the crankcase, and an ounce (approx) of rusty water drained from the tanks when valves were opened; the service center rep advised that this should not have been the case. Additionally, pressure control valve is difficult to adjust because of location under the handle. |
