Great product but not necessarily for beginners |
|
I spent weeks trying to learn Kompozer and finally gave up. After much research and testing, I finally settled on SiteSpinner as a replacement. Since I had previously learned some web design basics, I was able to design my (admittedly simple, but attractive and functional) site using SiteSpinner in only two days. I started with a third party template (from Low Tech Geezer). This site would have taken many, many days to build in Kompozer. SiteSpinner does have a few rough spots. You can't apply properties to more than one object at a time and the built-in templates are not very attractive. But overall I love the product. It's very easy to use if you are computer literate and it's surprising how much you can do with it given the ease of use. I would highly recommend SiteSpinner for computer savvy beginners or those who have at least an elementary knowledge of web site design. However, I expect that the learning curve will be steep for beginners who are not computer savvy. I would recommend that those users stick with the basic online site builders that are offered by many web hosting sites. Feel free to take a look at my site at [...] |

Functional, Robust Program . . . and a little Quirky |
|
This is my first and only Web Building program. Sitespinner has supplied free upgrades steadily since I bought the first version seven years ago. Not all functions are intuitive, but they are all there. So with a little bit of stick time; you'll be able to create almost any page you'd like. The embedded text editor noted elsewhere is an annoyance. But one gets used to having a text editor or word processor close at hand. I've found product support to be excellent. The user forums are well laid out, and closely monitored by "super users" from inside and outside of the company. Other users also seem enthusiastic about the program and community, and are eager to help. Recommended. |

Not Easy for Beginners |
I am most disappointed in SiteSpinner. I purchased it because of the excellent recommendations on the Jas-store reviews. I don't excell in web design, but originally I used GeoCities, free site hosting, and Front Page 2000 and Front Page 2003, but the drawback there was I had difficulty finding a host that could upload it. In the end I used Site Builder by Yahoo, which is simple to use and I was able to create a main project and tie in four separate books as sub-projects. At that time, I was not interested in tags, etc. This is why I tried SiteSpinner because it sounded so easy. I purchased the software, read the tutorials and spent four days attempting to paste my text in by either Word or Wordperfect, but the text didn't format properly. I finally saw on the forum that one had to use "paste copy clone," which I did, but even when I used that, the paragraphs wouldn't always indent, and when trying to fix it, the tab didn't indent and I had to go through sentence by sentence and manually do this, but the indents wouldn't hold that way either. On top of that, the workpage is numbered in inches with no side bar on the workpages and the main sheet is not measured in inches so I could not find out how much text it would take and had to keep splitting my pages and redoing and saving them to get the entire writinge on. I never got as far as tags, etc. because I spent so much time trying to get the pages to look right.
After four days of struggling with it, I finally gave up and went back to Site Builder, which probably can't do all that SS can, but it provides for tags, etc. and I can load it onto Yahoo hosting and it works out great. I am most disappointed and if it wasn't for the help of the Forum, I couldn't have gotten that far. It seems to me most unusual that the only help one can get is from a Forum group.

WYSIWYG and that means no help!! |
|
It helps you make pretty website but that's all the more credit I give it. I've had one class in web design, published 3 sites and thought I'd try this as I was using Frontpage but found the designs.... well boring. The reviews all talked about all the neat things you can do with SITE SPINER. How you don't need knowledge to do this. But if your like me and have limited knowledge in publishing your website then DON'T BUY THIS! Help is non-existant unless you speak the code and are willing to spend half a day online trying to figure things out. Check the FAQ's or the Forum before you bother us is the impresion I get. My server Hostmonster-bless them they are wonderful!- helped get it published not Sitespiner. So far I haven't had a human respond to my emails. I'm trying to do updates and at this point I am by hand putting my site back on Frontpage photo by photo so uploads and revisions will work. |

I just downloaded this program.....WOW! I was using Microsoft Publisher, what a hunk a junk Microsoft is compared to this thing. Its as easy as pie. And no, nobody paid me to say that.....it really is great. This program can make "Web developers" very nervous....its almost like we can be them....almost! |
