Editorial Reviews for  'Midnight: A Gangster Love Story'

Product Description
Sister Souljah, the hip-hop generation's number one author and most compelling storyteller, delivers a powerful story about love and loyalty, strength and family. In her bestselling novel, The Coldest Winter Ever, Sister Souljah introduced the world to Midnight, a brave but humble lieutenant to a prominent underworld businessman. Now, in a highly anticipated follow-up to her million-selling masterpiece, she brings readers into the life and dangerously close to the heart of this silent, fearless young man.

Raised in a wealthy, influential, Islamic African family, Midnight enjoys a life of comfort, confidence, and protection. Midnight's father provides him with a veil of privilege and deep, devoted love, but he never hides the truth about the fierce challenges of the world outside of his estate. So when Midnight's father's empire is attacked, he sends Midnight with his mother to the United States.

In the streets of Brooklyn, a young Midnight uses his Islamic mind-set and African intelligence to protect the ones he loves, build a business, reclaim his wealth and status, and remain true to his beliefs.

Midnight, a handsome and passionate young man, attracts many women. How he interacts and deals with them is a unique adventure. This is a highly sensual and tremendous love story about what a man is willing to risk and give to the women he loves most. Midnight will remain in your mind and beat in your heart for a lifetime.

Her "raw and true voice" (Publishers Weekly) will both soothe and arouse you. In a beautifully written and masterfully woven story, Sister Souljah has given us Midnight, and solidified her presence as the mother of all contemporary urban literature.

Customer Reviews for  'Midnight: A Gangster Love Story'

Midnight
I have really enjoyed reading this book, Sister Souljah paints a very clear picture of a young male struggling with his religious beliefes in a society that has no moral character. This book also points out the importance of the family foundation and how a child learns from what he sees, his mother is a very strong role model that is not accepting anything less than perfect, and he wants to make her proud, in comparison to the other children in the book that seem to be living by the rules of the street. I think every teenage girl and boy needs to read this book to understand the importance of self control and self respect.

Awesome
Great book from beginning to end. The main characters morals and beliefs make you want to be a better person and will make you look at things in a whole new way. This world would be a better place if more people went about their lives as Midnight does. I enjoyed this story so much I instantly ordered 2 more of her books. Great read and hope she comes out with a sequel very soon.

set up
We were set up, Sister Souljah u taught me the true meaning of never judge a book by it's title. I even reread Coldest Winter Ever to freshen up my memory and was disappointed to find out this had nothing at all to do with Winter and the Midnight in the 1st book. BEWARE .

Excellent Read
I finished this book in about 2 days. It was an excellent read. Very informative and insightful. It was not a sequel to Coldest Winter...but it defined Midnight's past, whom and what he stands for. The book I believe was a blunt insight into a growing America. Which can be harsh to except if your not willing to at least agree that it exists even if not on the scale that is portrayed in the book. In Midnight it is discussed how poorly black women are treated by others and by themselves. But I don't feel this was done to offend but rather to illuminate so it can be fixed. If read with an open and positive mind, anyone can enjoy and learn something from reading this book!

Time lost
I picked this book up without reading anything about it bc I long awaited another novel by Sister Souljah. By the time I got to Chapter 7, I was like where the heck is this going and what's the purpose. The book is very far fetched and keeps you longing for an answer that you never receive. I kept reading only bc I wanted to know what was going on with the father and why why why did he do what he did to his first wife (the supposedly love of his life). Then I get to the end of this almost 500 page book to not have a real ending. Yes it has some good life lessons if you can get past the American bashing and numerous lessons he learned during his 5 years in Sudan. Lesson learned: read the reviews and if the reviews are from a past book instead of the present, leave it!
